Power to the Poets - ReDefinition: The Complexity & Poetry of Hip-Hop (Session 2)

  • Peggy Burruss Art Studio 519 Commerce Street Lynchburg, VA, 24504 United States (map)

Are you an aspiring poet? Do you want to connect the world’s or poetry & hip-hop? Do you want to gain confidence on stage? Join this course as Nick coaches and encourages giving power to the poets. Learn more deeply about the complexities and politics of the spoken word. Nick will touch on the history of hip-hop and walk each student through finding your voice and preparing for an in-house open mic.

There is a reason that spoken word gets confused with rap so often. The two are deeply intertwined, and this session will peek at the patterns and relationship between performance poetry and the culture of hip-hop. As much as we will be talking about performance styles and your own personal techniques, we will also be diving into the poetic devices that we’re all familiar with how poetic hip-hop actually is.
