Before hip-hop...

and

Before Black Lives Matter...

We had the Black Arts Movement. From 1965 to 1975, America saw the emergence of what would become the future of self-expression, autonomy, creativity and activism. Led by black poets, writers and musicians, this moment in American history laid down the foundation for parts of the culture many of us enjoy today. This lecture will invite attendees to consider this moment in time and the people who made it possible.
